Interior: Danish Modern living

i have a weak spot for danish design. i used to work for a furniture company that sold danish furniture and the danes would come over and visit a few times a year. i loved hearing about denmark, their thoughts on american designers and got made fun of by pronouncing arne jacobsen's name "the american way". i found this beautiful interior from bolig magasinet. i don't speak danish but think the home belongs a young artist couple that has a pottery company. see the article and the rest of the photos here.

Lighting: Magdalena from Terzani

my husband sent me a photo of this light from his iphone the other day and in the body of the email it simply stated "i want this light! it looks like the deathstar." so, of course, i email the lighting rep, find out what it is and the pricepoint. i wrote back "it's the magdalena from terzani and is $2,500. sorry." ha. we can both dream though...right? i love the way the light reflects a labrynth. it comes in white, tin and gold plated.
oh, and i love the red cord too.

Finish: Modern table runner

i am sad to say that i do not own a dining table. it is something that i am willing to not have and wait until the right piece comes to me. my husband and i have moved 4 times in 7 years and in each move we purge...a lot. when we moved to the loft we slept on a mattress on the floor for months because we hated our bed and didn't want to take it with us. well, now in the house, we have no dining table because of this same thought process. i do look quite frequently and like to think about what table runner i would like to have on my pretend table. i think one of these three will work! definitely!

Furniture: Celeste Bed

Jib sail shaped canopy for beds."Celeste is a sky" says Belgian designer Kris Van den Berghe. In fact, you can project images of the sky, day or night, onto the canopy to get the full celestial effect. But it's also surprisingly functional, as it can also be used as a separator to create privacy and as a screen for your projection TV. It's made of a white extensible material that can be dismantled and washed. Celeste was a graduation project at Katholieke Hogeschool Mechelen's school of architecture. See the entire portfolio at vomo.be.

Architecture: Chapel for the Deconesses of St-Loup

before starting this blog i never imagined that i would want to design a chapel. i thought to myself "oh, too conservative for me" or "i could never be that ornate". but, after finding multiple amazing modern chapels since blogging i have changed my mind. i want to design a modern chapel and i want it to be as awesome as this chapel for the deconesses of st-loup. gorgeous site, simple interior, and beautiful lines and materials.

Architecture: Recap round (one)!

modern architecture is somewhat an obsession of mine. i work in an incredible, modern, concrete box with insanely cool architects...so it goes hand in hand. my husband has tried to get me to go to architecture school, but i love my job as an interior designer and am so over school right now (i have two degrees and did 7-1/2 years of college!!). i think i will learn on the job and just appreciate the process for now.

Interior: Hotel Aire de Bardenas

my good friend monica of of paper and things sent me this amazing link! the Hotel Aire de Bardenas is a 4 star hotel located in the center of a wheat field near desert-like landscapes. because the exterior conditions are not always suitable for relaxing, the designers created interiors that allow the guest to feel outside. i love the bed nooks and the large expansive windows that look out onto the gorgeous landscape.

DIY: Chai Tea Gift Recipe

with the holidays looming overhead i have been brainstorming on diy presents for friends and family. last year i made a hot cocoa mix with homemade marshmallows which i thought was delicious(and i may do again this year!), but found this fun recipe for chai tea and thought it would be fun to make and to share with you all.

Ingredients:
1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla flavored powdered non-dairy creamer (or cut non-dairy creamer and just use 2 cup french vanilla)
1 1/2 cups white sugar (can use 1.5 cups splenda)
1 1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea (can use decaf too)
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon all spice
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper

Preparation:
In a large bowl, combine milk powder, non-dairy creamer, vanilla flavored creamer, sugar and instant tea. Stir in ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. In a coffee grinder, blender or food processor, blend 1 cup at a time, until mixture is the consistency of fine powder.

To serve: Stir 2-3 heaping tablespoons Chai tea mixture into a mug of hot water or warmed skim milk.
FOOTNOTE You may choose to omit the French vanilla creamer, and use 2 teaspoons vanilla extract instead. To do so, mix the vanilla into the sugar, to let then dry, then break the sugar into small lumps. Follow the same procedure as above.

Artist: Alexander Girard Plyprint

alexander girard is one of my favorite designers and artists. columbia forest products has put out this series of girard prints and they are available at velocity art and design.

"Each panel is created with sustainable practices by using plywood sheets that cannot otherwise be sold because of imperfections in the grain. The vibrant artworks mix bold colors with the deep textures of the real wood veneers. The wood panels are formaldehyde-free utilizing Columbia Forest Products’ Pure Bond® technology to create a safe and green wood based product for your home."

Lighting: Oyule

Oyule is a lamp set made by industrial designer Sergio Silva.
The idea behind it was “to take a light bulb back in time”- as in when it was well appreciated and stuff, and make it a modern lighting device.
The position of the lamp is ensured by a magnet inside the “bulb” that “glues” to the acrylic surface beneath. (via cribfashion)
