Architecture: Leonardo Glass Cube

I have had this Leonardo Glass Cube marked in my favorites for some time now. Not only is the architecture fantasitc, but the landscape design is remarkable. I love how the house looks like a glass cube that has been trapped by a spider web.

(via coolboom)
3deluxe created this distinctive corporate architecture for the brand Leonardo. The integrative design concept combines architecture, interior design and landscape design into a complex aesthetic entity.
The glass facade allows the
Leonardo Glass Cube to interplay with the surrounding landscape. Inside, a view of a generous open space with an undulating white wall opens up to visitors. Between the curved wall and the glass facade a hallway provides space for informal meetings and events.
The building is a multi-layered composition: the silhouette-like genetics overlay with the graphic design of the glass facade and elements on the inside.

Finish: Marmoleum's Walton Crocodile

Marmoleum is my favorite manufacturer of linoleum. They are so inventive with their colors, patterns and it really shows with the product walton crocodile. Crocodile flooring? Made out of linoleum? I laughed at first and now am warming up to the idea. See for yourself.

Etsy Lunch Hour: the modern kitchen

Last night I unpacked the entire kitchen. The kitchen is such an essential room in the house and it was driving me absolutely bonkers not knowing where to find a knife or a plate. I feel so much better now! Here's a collection of modern kitchen items by some fantastic etsy artists.

Interior: Golf & Country Club, Sempachersee

The golf & country club at Sempachersee has got to be the coolest country club I have ever seen. The interiors of this project are so fantastic and modern and lovely. I wish I lived in Switzerland so I could go visit.

(via thecoolhunter)

Golf and drab are synonyms, right? And the mere mention of Golf and Country Club makes you run. Away. Fast. Golf may indeed have a bit of an image problem but that did not deter the Zürich-based Smolenicky & Partner Architektur when they were retained to work on the expansion of the venerable Sempachersee Golf Club located near Lucerne in Switzerland.
In addition to the new club house-restaurant building and the new maintenance building, both of which Smolenicky designed, the expansion included a second 18-hole golf course. All of this has made Golf Club Sempachersee the largest golf club in Switzerland and, quite likely, the club with the coolest club house.
In their approach to the club house, Smolenicky sought to manifest two things: what they call the “country character of the golfing culture of the Sempachersee course” and the course’s worldly sophistication. They took their design cues from “the rural warmth of a timber barn and the clear lines of a Maserati sports car.” The resulting building, the sleek and minimalist interior, and the magnificent 180-degree panoramic views of the Sempachersee lake and the Alps might just be reasons enough to give golf another chance. Or, at the very least, rethink what a golfing environment could look like. By Tuija Seipell

Lighting: Maria Berntsen: Classic One Table Lamp

This Classic One table lamp from Maria Berntsen from Nova68 makes me smile every time I see it. The white version is cool but not nearly as cool as the clear version. I love any electronic that you can see through. I think it started with the Swatch watch and phone that you see through. I still want one of those watches 20 something years later!

Happy 4th Weekend!

I hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend! Mine was filled with moving and sweating and cursing, but it was very productive. We moved into our first home! I found this photo on pleaides's flickr sight, but it is literally the view from my old loft of the big fireworks show we have here. This is what I got to watch while finishing packing on the 4th. Have a great Monday and more posts to come!

Artist: Andrew Cotton

I really love the work of Andrew Cotton. I have a weakness for graffiti and gritty city scenes, which Andrew combines beautifully. Read below for an exerpt from his etsy bio explaining his technique and mediums. Check out his website here and etsy site here.

Over the last three years, Andrew’s work has evolved from spray paint and complex stencil work to a cross-section of paint mediums to, most recently, exploring oxidation combined with hand-paced serigraphs. This medium was inspired by his recent collaborative show “Exploration in Oxidation.” In using oxidation techniques and paint, which corrodes over time, Andrew’s current work reflects the ever-changing urban landscape which both celebrates and entraps the human spirit.

Accessory: Bullet Planters

I have always loved the look of these bullet planters. You can find them a few places online, but I find that Hip Haven has the most extensive color and size selection. There's really not a color I don't like!
(update: check out this article from apartment therapy they just listed with hip haven's sale information...AT and I must be on the same wavelength today!)

Etsy Lunch Hour: Owls

I have long had a fascination with owls. Last night while sitting in the front yard of my new house I look up and see a huge screech owl sitting on the powerlines on the corner of our lot. I am so excited to be so close to a nature preserve and am looking forward to seeing all sorts of interesting wildlife. (especially the owls!) So, today's lunch hour series is an ode to the beautiful owl and the wonderful etsy artists that share my love.

I saw this post on apartment therapy and fell in love. I love this conversion of a railway carriage in Norfolk. The arched ceiling and thick knotty hardwood plank flooring are so charming.

Finish: Quartz Countertops

Lately I have been specifying quartz about as much as granite. For the past few years it has seemed that everyone has wanted granite, but I can feel the wheels shifting slightly as quartz makes it's breakthrough. Quartz is far superior to granite and has been around forever, but it is more costly. It has stain, crack and heat resistant properties that make it the ideal surface. I found just a few images to give you an idea of what quartz can look like installed.

Etsy Lunch Hour: Posters

I really love band posters and was inspired by this Jeff Tweedy poster at the Alabama Theatre, which just happens to be 1 block from my apartment. (at least for one more week until i move!) I found so many great posters on etsy and wanted to share just a few with you.

Architecture & Interior: Barn House

While searching for cool interiors I found this extraordinary barn rehab project that included fantastic architecture as well. So, I have combined this into an architecture and interior post. Read part of the article from wallpaper* below:

Project architect Huys co-heads (with Hendrik Vermoortel) Belgian architecture and interior design practice Buro2, who a few years ago received the commission to re-design an old farm barn in the rolling hills of Central West Flanders.
Since the beginning it was clear for Huys what the main concept would be. 'The farm was the main place where people lived alongside nature, seeing it both as force and as threat,' says the architect, who took into account the weather conditions and the surrounding nature, when working on the Barn House's design.
Seeing the barn re-interpretation as a way of developing and managing the landscape, the architect added a new, residential dimension to a structure once only connected to working the land.
