Etsy Lunch Hour: Maps

I have a weakness for maps and have always wanted a study/library with map wallpaper. I really love all of these wonderful etsy finds created from maps. Enjoy!

Architecture: One Jackson Square

A new project in Greenwich Village is bringing a mix of modern luxury and green building to the historic West Village district. Architect William Pederson, with international real estate firm Hines, recently announced the design for One Jackson Square. With an eye-catching glass façade and a host of environmentally sound features, the new development will be Greenwich Village’s first LEED-certified multi-unit luxury condominium.

One Jackson Square will provide 35 loft condominium residences on 11 floors, each with floor-to-ceiling views of the surrounding neighborhood. Eight of the condos have outdoor spaces, and the penthouse boasts a 1,670 square-foot roof terrace. On the luxury side, the building offers a round the clock concierge, valet parking, plush lounge area and catering kitchen. On site facilities include a fully stocked exercise room and a luxury spa.
The sustainable aspects of One Jackson Square include multiple terraces and a
green roof which covers about 20% of the total site. Native and low maintenance landscaping was selected to reduce water consumption. Efficient HVAC systems lower the building’s overall energy usage. And, the construction materials were chosen to lower the building’s environmental impact, as well as improve indoor air quality for residents. Construction waste was kept to a minimum and much of it recycled.

Cardboard Interior

dARCH Studio founder and architect Elina Drossou said “The need to synthesize the two different approaches to design was the focal point of this project. Concepts and practices used in fashion design were incorporated as organizational principles during the design and the construction phases of the project.”
The installation is composed entirely of
re-purposed packing cartons, and was constructed around the space’s existing furniture to create a seamless, streamlined effect. dARCH Studio” built the fluid framework from 1,500 sheets of 5mm thick corrugated cardboard, which were cut into strips and then carefully pasted along an entire wall of the 90 square meter shop. Integrated illumination transforms the built-in boxes to display cases that dynamically frame Eleftheriades’ wares. The innovative installation cost 2,500 Euros, and is a stunning example of thinking outside of the down-cycling loop.

DIY: Compost

I have always wanted a compost bin for my award winning garden! Well, up until this point my award winning garden has consisted of 3 window pots full of dried up remnants of herbs....oh, and a poor brown bonsai tree. But, next month I should have a whole yard all to myself and I am planning on what I want to do. Composting is high on the list. I have even done some research on how to compost dog waste, which you can compost separately from the compost you want to use in your garden. Check the chart below for the "yes" and "no" materials possible to compost.

Accessory: Amy Ruppel curtains & fabric

Okay, so this may be a little misleading since this fabric is not yet in production, but check out Grace's post this morning on Design Sponge to let you know more about this awesome fabric:
"handmade amy ruppel fabric that was shown at a recent gallery show. there aren’t any textiles in production yet, but amy created these pieces using carved wooden blocks and rubber stamps. it’s her first foray into the fabric world but i think it’s an incredibly promising one. i’d love to see someone pick up the line and produce it so i could reupholster my favorite rocking chair. until then, you can check out more of amy’s work right here. i promise that the second i hear when/if this is going into production i’ll be sure to update."

Architecture: HUF House

The distinctive feature of a HUF Home is its post and beam architecture. This timber frame concept frees the designer of the constraints of load-bearing (and thus dividing) walls. It gives HUF designs their unrivalled breadth, openings and vast spaces. Wall to ceiling glazing opens the view on the surrounding nature, making it part of the living experience.

Interior: St. Bartholomews Church

Being a designer, I often imagine how I would design interiors of all sorts. One project I have never invisioned is a church. But, I have to believe that if I were given the opportunity it might look something like St. Bartholomews Church designed by Maxim Velcovsky and Jakub Berdych at qubus. I so love the Verner Panton chairs with a simple cushion for added cushion for a long sermon. What makes this church really spectacular is the combination of fantastic architecture that has been untouched on the interior and the modern furnishings. Even the traditional, grandeur chandeliers make me "ooh" and "aah". Oh, and how sweet is that robin's egg blue front door. Fantastique!
