Reminiscent of chochin paper lanterns, nendo created this blown fabric light installation for the Tokyo Fiber ’09 Senseware exhibition. Adopting the same technique that is used in glass blowing, these lights are blown from Smash - a long fiber non-woven polyester that is capable of being manipulated into different forms using a hot press form technology. Smash’s thermoplastic properties allow for the creation of seamless one-piece lanterns that are rip-proof and glow beautifully when illuminated from within. (via furfin)
