Furniture: George Nakashima

this straight back chair and splay leg table by george nakashima for knoll is so fantastic. i got to see them in person a few weeks ago and have to say that i couldn't take my eyes off of them. there is also a tray that is the same as the table top. such great lines. they were both originally designed in the 1940s and have recently been added back to knoll's line.

DIY: Reusable Sandwich Wrap

i was talking to my friend monica of of paper and things about diy projects yesterday. i've been trying to be green around the house...using green toilet paper, no more paper towels, replacing paper napkins with cloth napkins and my last qualm is a way to to get rid of ziploc bags in a less bulky way than tupperware which she has a problem with as well. i assume others have this same dilema. if so, check out this fun diy reusable sandwich wrap via of paper and things...
sarah of
the small object created this cute and ingenious solution for packing sandwiches (it doubles as a placemat!). you'll need a simple template, a bit of both vinyl coated fabric and cotton fabric, and a velcro closure. a little stitching, and voila! the full instructions are here.

Hardwoods Round 2

last night we decided to rip up a little more bedroom carpet...everything except what is under the bed and the dressers. look what we found! it looks like an entire can of white paint dumped out on the floor. (those are my husband's size 13 feet in the pic if that gives you a better scale) at least the floors are in decent shape. only two strips need to be repaired/replaced so far. anyone have any tips to get this paint off besides just sanding it down?

Artist: Sun K. Kwak

it's black matte masking tape! yes, you read it correctly. click here to find out how Sun K. Kwak created “Enfolding 280 Hours”. (via notcot)

Accessory: Jewelry Cabinet

i am in dire need of some jewelry storage. i love this little weathered wood jewelry cabinet from urban outfitters. they've introduced a few other sweet little jewelry holder/organizers as well, but this is my favorite.

Original Wood Floors!

so, my husband had a wild hair last night and decided to start removing the carpet in the bedroom to see what was underneath. he started in a closet where it wouldn't matter and there they were...the original hardwoods. i knew that they were supposed to be there, but had not seen the color or what condition they were in yet. they are pretty paint splattered and will take a bit of work. there are a few damaged planks so far. but, for 81 year old hardwoods (yes, my house was built in 1928!), i think they look pretty fabulous. i'll keep you updated on the status. i have a feeling when i get home there won't be carpet at all in the bedroom.
