Guest Blogger: Susi from Arcadian Lighting

Hi, I'm Susi, a writer over at the Arcadian Lighting blog which focuses on great ideas for lighting fixtures and decorating projects. I love visiting other blogs as a guest blogger and am happy to be here at peppermags today. My guest post is about the trend of using reclaimed furniture to create beautiful contemporary furniture and built-ins. Hope you enjoy!
Reclaimed Wood
It is amazing how reclaimed wood can be transformed into beautiful furniture like this dining table. Even wood from pallets and shipping crates can be used to construct stylish furniture.
Reclaimed Wood
A slab of reclaimed wood makes a stunning table reminiscent of the work of Mid-Century design icon George Nakishima. The natural beauty of the wood is the focal point, as it should be.
Reclaimed Wood
Reclaimed wood often has amazing patina and texture. The reclaimed wood used for this table top has great age and character, something that typically isn't found in new furniture.
Reclaimed Wood
Reclaimed wood used to create a built-in headboard and night tables gives the new piece of furniture an aged, worn, rustic look. Using reclaimed wood in a project may also lower the cost of a DIY furniture project. Mixing rustic wood and a contemporary pendant light creates visually interesting contrast.
Reclaimed Wood
Using reclaimed wood lends itself well to contemporary design as well as rustic and handcrafted styles. Paired with chrome or stainless steel, the reclaimed wood makes a cool top for a table like this console table.
Reclaimed Wood
This DIY project utilizes reclaimed wood for the shelves and piping for the supports to create a rustic industrial style shelf unit. This is a great combination of old and new that feels one of a kind.
Reclaimed Wood
This bathroom vanity is fronted in reclaimed wood. I love the rough hewn wood in a contemporary space. The wood adds great texture to the bathroom. The simple bathroom light fixtures look stunning with the rustic texture.
Reclaimed Wood
Keeping the rough edge on the top of this headboard gives this bed a rustic style. The reclaimed wood is left natural, which also makes it feel a bit more rustic.

Interior: Kitchen & Dining

Thanksgiving is this week and I've collected a few kitchens and dining rooms that I'd love to have for myself.  Here's just a peek. (above)

Accessory: Kidz Placemats

Kidz Placemats available by modern twist.  These sweet designs by Matte Stephens were turned into placemats that come with a marker set so you can color them in for yourself.  What a great activity for kids.  I'd love to see some "afters" of these.

Architecture: Houseboat

I've daydreamed about how fun it would be to live in a houseboat. I can only wish that mine would be as beautiful as this one owned by Doug McClelland and Anthony Thomas at Coal Harbour Marina in Vancouver, British Columbia.  (via houzz)

Interiors: Modern Rustic

Okay, so the image above isn't an interior, but it's the picture that started this post and I really want to live here.  Modern design with a touch of rustic is one of my favorite combinations.

Lighting: Heavy Desk Light

Heavy Desk Light by Benjamin Hubert.  Everything he does is absolutely gorgeous. You might remember these or these too. (via chictip)

Furniture: Lamp

I was doing a little research on credenzas for a client of mine and came across Lamp.  They are now one of my favorite furniture designers.  I especially love their combinations of angles, wood, and steel.
