Artist: Comma Workshop

Comma Workshop was started in 2010 by designer Kerry Larkin. In 2006, Kerry installed an art piece at the SAAW gallery in Philadelphia that explored fabric, typography, and storytelling. Wanting to explore this more, she went back to her roots and embraced quilting. From a family of quilt-makers, seamstresses, and upholsterers, Kerry is continuing the tradition with a fresh perspective.

The context quilt collection explores people, place, and narrative through the tradition of quilt-making. Each quilt in the series has a story quilted directly into it, in both white thread and a contrasting color thread. The reader is invited to gather snippets of the stories that can be both reflective and quirky.

Comma Workshop also carries a line of baby quilts and does custom quilts as well. All you have to do is pick a style, size, and color thread.  Find out more information here.

...for the lack of posts lately.  With some serious work deadlines, the battery on my laptop going out, photo shoot over the weekend followed by the band headlining that night (which started at 2:00 a.m.), and helping friends, my life has been quite chaotic. I think my dogs might not remember me.  To make up for my lack of posting, I put together this fun collage for the old "12 Questions" collection via flickr.  Make yours here.

Bathroom Plant Inspiration

I was really inspired by this bathroom I saw at AT.  I love that blue and actually now have the same planter in front of my window in my bathroom with a cascading plant in it.  It reminds me of my favorite bullet planter but in a hanging version.  Do you have any plants in your bathroom?

Before: Studio

We found out this week that my husband will be getting a studio space.  It's something that he's been missing since we moved out of our gigantic loft that doubled as a studio.  Here's some before shots of the space.  I've already picked paint colors and ideas for layout and design ideas have already been discussed.  I'll post during and after pictures as the studio gets going.

Accessory: Woody Amp

I want this amp.  Fender Pro Junior 60th Anniversary Woody Guitar Combo Amp.

Its smart cosmetic appointments hearken back to 1946-era Fender amps, with a semi-transparent Honey Blonde gloss finish over solid ash, red vintage grille cloth with three chrome grill strips, solid ash handle, commemorative badge and deluxe vintage slip cover.

Oh, did I mention that it sounds amazing too?  I don't normally post music gear on here but this amp would look amazing in my house and sounds equally as beautiful.

Architecture: T Space

T Space by Steven Holl Architects.  What a beautiful gallery.  It is shaped like a "T", has amazing natural light throughout and I'm a sucker every time for a stark interior and slat wood exterior.  (via archdaily)

Interior: GT House

I'm absolutely in love with the GT House by Studio Guilherme Torres.  Guilherme Torres actually lives in this space himself and designed the table and sofa from concrete. The surface mounted electrical everywhere is cleverly done in a neat pattern to make it integral to the space.  I could live here no problem!  (via contemporist)

Furniture: Fatboy Avenue

Fatboy, the makers of the oversized beanbag chairs that are so fun and popular, has created an outdoor modular seating collection called Avenue.  The fabric is treated with a PVC coating to make it stain and water resistant.  I love the different designs on the top and the curved shapes available to make this collection even more fun.  (via yliving)

DIY: Tile Designs

I have a confession to make....I'm an 8 bit nerd.  It make come as a surprise to some of you, but it's true.  I still love my original NES and spent an hour the other night playing Jeopardy on it while my husband yelled out half of the answers.  I'm still that 6 year old kid, wide-eyed, and happy when I turn it on.  So, you can understand why these fun video game tile designs intrigued me.  I really really love the space invaders kitchen splash above and have saved the image to my "inspiration" folder.

Accessory: GAN Mangus Collection

GAN has an amazing collection of rugs.  I'm currently obsessed with this mangus collection.  It's like they cut a giant striped knit sock in half and laid it flat on the floor.  (via notcot)

Architecture: House R

House R is a beautiful weekend lake cabin, designed by Bevk Perovik arhiteki, that can shut itself off during the off season.  It reminds me of a modern day "The Little House".  (via archdaily)

Interior: Upside Down Cafe

The upside down cafe is a manhattan coffee shop, designed by nemaworkshop,  that looks like a library turned on it's side.  (via fastcodesign)

I love the herringbone wood "floor" behind the banquette and the pendant lights that come straight out from the wall.

DIY: Art Hall

My husband and I like to collect art.  He's also a photographer, so we find ourselves with many pieces to hang on the walls.  I have a stack of 4 pieces that I'm waiting to frame (christmas gift to myself maybe?).  We have a rather small hallway, but I think it would look fantastic with ceiling to floor artwork like the image above.  We kid that by the time we are old that the whole house will look like this.  I like how uniform and perfect these framed pieces are, but I could easily see it with different frames and different shaped pieces lining the walls just as easily.  Below is a picture of our hall.  Please disregard the complete mess in the back two bedrooms.  This was taken two weeks after we moved in, before we unpacked most of the boxes and before we refinished the hardwoods under that nasty beige carpet.

Recycled Content: Measuring Tape Pendant Lights

These pendant lights are made from spun measuring tape.  I love that the tick marks make a cool pattern when stacked. (via inhabitat)

Architecture: Tidal Resonance Chamber

Tidal Resonance Chamber designed by Robert Horner is a beautiful example of rammed-Earth construction.

Reflecting upon the cultural, environmental and spiritual frequencies of place, the Tidal Resonance Chamber invites users to harmonize with the rhythms of nature and to discover the overlapping layers associated with the Delta of the Puyallup River. The Tidal Resonance Chamber’s main interior space has a trapezoidal footprint roughly 12’ x 18’. The fortified rammed-earth walls measure 8’6” in height, and rest atop a concrete foundation that measures 4’ in height. The chamber has a maximum filling capacity of 2500 gallons, which will fill at the highest of high tides. The interior of the chamber is filled with reclaimed granite curb fragments, river stones and will eventually populate with micro-organisms, barnacles and other aquatic lifeforms.  (via archdaily)
