DIY: Turntable

this is pretty fun.  i'd love to hear it!

Who needs turntables when you have cardboard? GGRP Sound has come up with a brilliant way to play records: with the record sleeve. The needle-embedded carboard package folds up to hold a 45rpm in place, making sound while you spin it with a pencil. Instead of outputting to a speaker, the vibrations go through the needle and into the cardboard, and the sound quality is not bad, from what we've heard anyway.

Green Content: Southern Bouquets

i had another "green" post lined up for today, but then i opened up my mail and found this beautiful "southern bouquets" book by melissa bigner with heather barrie.  all of the beautiful photography is by peter frank edwards.  sorry for the iphone photo, i seriously JUST got this in the mail and was so excited to share it.  do you love camellias, daffodils, azaleas, roses, hydrangeas, zinnias, and sunflowers?  if you said yes to any of these you should check out this book.  it gives you a list of different types of each flower and tips on how to arrange.  so pretty.

Architecture: Octagonal Book Building

an octagonal structure made entirely out of books!

...installed in the Modern Art Center in Lisboa. Slovakian artist Matej Kren built an octagonal framework, filled it with books and removed it, leaving a symmetrical, enclosed room of stacked literature.
